  • Biographical / Historical

Before the changes in United States laws relating to homosexuality gay pornography was illegal. Magazines considered to be soft gay pornography were marketed as beefcake magazines with a supposed emphasis on exercise and fitness. As gay pornography became legal; the need diminished. The Stonewall Riots of June 1969 at the Stonewall Inn, Greenwich Village, New York City is considered to be the start of Gay Pride.

  • Scope and Contents

There are three boxes of gay magazines, gay couples magazines, swinger magazines, porn video magazines, a segment of leather lifestyle magazines plus Playgirl special issues and Playboy special magazines. The majority are from the 1960s and 1970s.

  • Arrangement

Each box is arranged alphabetically by title.
